In ancient China, “狀元 (Zhuang Yuan)” means the number one scholar in the imperial examination. Based on this tradition, all dishes is made by master of steamed rice. Originating from Yunnan, steamed rice preserves its flavor and nutritional integrity by steaming rather than boiling.

Inspiration
The brand identity is inspired by pictographic characters. These characters symbolize objects or convey meanings visually. The design incorporates elements of Chinese calligraphy, breaking apart “燜”, “狀”, and “元” into expressive illustrations of three master chefs at work. These illustrations are woven throughout the brand. The color plan is taken by from traditional clothing of Yunnan’s ethnic groups, infusing the brand with a rich cultural depth that connects the past with the present.

JC Legal Event | Leading with Cultural Fluency: Women Leaders Navigating Cross-border Careers
JC Legal is a boutique, women-led law firm in Hong Kong with a quiet but distinctive point of view: cross-border careers are built by women who navigate cultures, languages, and self-doubt long before they ever sit in the corner office. Janice and her team wanted to host an intimate evening that brought that belief to life — not as a marketing message, but as a felt experience. The brief was simple to say and harder to do: gather 80 of the right people in one room, give them a real conversation worth their time, and have everyone walk out feeling closer to JC Legal without ever being sold to. DesignBFF was brought in to take this from a one-line idea to a fully produced evening, end-to-end. From concept and curation to copy, design, run-of-show, sponsor management, and on-the-night production.
